When Life Gives You Snow: Celebrate!
Today was my first day back at work since the problems with my eye started on October 12.
It was a cold, snowy/rainy morning, and the first time I had driven in the dark. Thankfully, I did not have any problems getting to work, getting all the children across the street safely, and getting back home!
Because it was a snowy day, I decided that some snow fun was in order. Sara and Sophie were scheduled to stay with me today, so I made a quick stop at Dollar General on the way home from work to see if I could find anything with a snowman theme.
I was delighted to discover many wonderful treasures to add some fun to our Snow Day Celebration.

When Laurie and the girls got to the house they were excited about Snow Day.
I think this might have been the first snow Sophie has seen. She is almost two, and I don’t remember if it has snowed since she was born. She kept calling it rain. (Later in the morning it actually did turn into rain.)
We had so much fun, that I plan to make it a family tradition. If there is snow on the ground – we will celebrate Snow Day!
I can’t wait for the after Christmas sales so I can get some more snowman things on clearance. One thing I am looking forward to buying is some of those beautiful, sparkling, twinkling icicle lights.
I’m not really a fan of actually being outside in the snow. When I was a little girl I dreaded for my Mother to bundle us up and send us outside to play in the snow. I could barely move my arms and legs, making walking almost impossible. So, playing was simply out of the question.
When my own kids were growing up they did play outside in the snow. Lance enjoyed it as much as they did. I remember Laurie especially having fun in the snow. She still enjoys it.
When we first moved back to Texas from Colorado she was in the fourth grade. She didn’t remember ever living where there wasn’t snow. She was born in Amarillo, then we lived in Germany and later in Colorado. Snow was simply part of her life.
I can remember watching her laying in the snow in the backyard in Colorado, moving her arms and legs in some kind of circle. I asked her what she was doing. She looked at me as if she could not believe I was actually her mother and said, “I’m making a snow angel.”
I have never made a snow angel. I have never been in a snow ball fight. I have helped to build a couple of snowmen. But, truthfully, I enjoy the snow from inside the house, looking out.
That’s why I had so much fun with Sara and Sophie today on Snow Day! We were warm and toasty inside the house.
If it turns out that they enjoy playing outside in the snow like Laurie did, she – or Pop – can take them outside. I’ll go outside long enough to take some pictures, then I’ll be standing by inside the house with hot chocolate when they come back in the house.
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow…
